St. Paul’s Nearly New Thrift Shop

We are pleased to report yet another record year for the Thrift Shop. Our proceeds exceeded $22,500 for the year. The increase in revenue has resulted in even more involvement with local, national and international programs.

Our support of Mt. Airy Net continued throughout the year. A total of $2,000.00 in cash was given, new stuffed animals for distribution at Christmas were donated, and we were able to meet the needs of local families brought to our attention.

Approximately four hundred bags of adult clothing were sent to Springfield State Hospital during the year and a cash donation of $500.00 was made to purchase Canteen Cards for the residents at Christmas.

Approximately seven hundred bags of clothing were given to Frederick Mission to assist with their particular ministry. Much of what we send is recycled, sold by the pound with the proceeds going directly to the Mission.

All of these organizations experienced increased demands on their resources during the year and it was very gratifying to be in a position to add to our already extensive support.

A cash donation of $250.00 was made to Camp Amazing Grace to sponsor a child.

We continue monthly pledges to TRRC and the Rector’s Discretionary Fund and have added additional pledges to Heifer International and Walter Reed Telephone Gift Cards.

In the latter part of 2006 we decided to include Shop customers in our Heifer International and Wounded Veterans projects with good success. Many of our customers made donations which were added to those of our parishioners. Not only was this idea well received, but it provided an opportunity to bring these needs to the attention of many non-parishioners.

Most gratifying is the fact that several of our customers, volunteers and fellow-parishioners felt free to bring needs to our attention and ask our help. We were able to respond in a number of ways and look forward to future opportunities.

During the year we received numerous favorable comments concerning the appearance of our Shop, the quality of merchandise and the friendliness of our volunteers. These comments make it abundantly clear that our efforts are both recognized and appreciated and we offer our sincere thanks to our hard-working staff.
