The Rector

The Rev. Dr. Ann Boyd began as rector of St. Paul's on October 9, 2005. Previously Ann served as Assistant Rector at St. John's Episcopal Parish in Hagerstown from July 2004 to September 2005. Trained first as a scientist, Ann completed a Ph.D. at LSU in 1971, and worked in cancer research at Ft. Detrick from 1973-1988. She bagan teaching graduate courses at Hood College in 1975, transitioning from full time research to full time teaching in 1982. Ann served as Chair of the Department of Biology six years, Dean of the Graduate School nine years, and continues to teach at Hood. Ann teaches courses in biomedical ethics, global issues, virology, genetics, and science and ethics. Completing seminary first at St. Mary's Ecumenical Institute in Baltimore with a Masters of Arts in Theology with emphases in systematic and moral theology, Ann continued seminary at Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA with a Certificate of Advanced Theological Study. Ann was ordained priest February 2005.
Education is a life-long process, essential to the development of spiritual maturity and Christian formation. Ann teaches the adult forum with an emphasis on the intersection between contemporary topics and Christian faith.

The Vestry

The Vestry is the governing body of the Parish with the Rector as President. They manage the property and coordinate the organizations that carry on the ministry of the church. Members are elected at the annual Congregational Meeting. They meet the third Sunday of each month. Vestry members serve three-year terms, which are staggered so that three members retire each January.
